Mourners urged to keep the red flag flying for Bob Jones

🕔11.Jul 2014

Friends and colleagues attending a memorial service for Bob Jones have been asked to wear something red in recognition of the former West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner’s strong socialist beliefs.

Mr Jones, for many years a Labour councillor in Wolverhampton, became the region’s first PCC in November 2012.

He died unexpectedly on July 1 and a celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday July 23 at Wolverhampton Civic Hall starting at 1pm.

The service is expected to be attended by politicians and public figures from across the region, as well as many serving police officers including West Midlands chief constable Chris Sims.

The family does not want people to wear black, but have asked everyone to wear something red in honour of Bob Jones.

At 2.30pm, Bob Jones’ family and close friends will leave the Civic Hall for a private funeral service.

Guests who have attended the service of celebration will be welcome to make their way through to The Wulfrun Hall, where refreshments will be served.

The family will return to the Wulfrun Hall at 1615 hours to re-join their guests.
