Old Joe’s Almanac 2014
The political year has almost run its course. The last PMQ’s has been staged, the first of many repeats we’ll see on the telly over the next few days. Sir Albert Bore has presented his White Paper and budget – it’s not quite the end of local government as we know it, so Armageddon can wait another day. Birmingham Airport’s spirited campaign throughout the year has not been rewarded with quite the gifts it wanted in this week’s interim Davies Commission report.
As our political leaders take time out to find some new soundbites and regroup for 2014 – and the crack Chamberlain News editorial team slip off for their annual half a shandy – it’s time to take a light hearted look at the year gone by and make some utterly hopeless predictions about 2014. In any case, real stories are going to dry up and we can’t let just write stuff about wheelie bins for 10 days.
So, we present Old Joe’s Almanac. Over the Christmas period, starting today, we’ll be turning the pages in a new annual reference book that will consider what kind of year it has been for fifteen or so of our favourite subjects on the Files – Annus Miribalis or Horribilis – and whether their star will be transient or lasting. My apologies, the format means that we can’t refuse (gettit?) Mr Dale with one opportunity to talk absolute rubbish…
Remember, it’s just a bit of fun but we hope you enjoy. Thank you for visiting the Chamberlain News in 2013 and, most importantly, may we wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
