As Paul Dale illustrates and expounds so tellingly, there is this self-denying cancer of a constant and persistent closing of ranks across almost every institution and organisation which purports to exist for the benefit of the public.
The Police protect the Police, Parliamentarians protect Parliamentarians, Hospital managements protect Hospital managements, councillors protect councillors (of the same Party!), and so on and, very, very definitely, so on.
I am sorry that Simon Weston stood down, but applaud his perceptive honesty in doing so - would that all PCC candidates had even a modicum of his honesty.
