7 Comments 🕔05.Nov 2015

Wouter Schuitemaker, a key figure at Marketing Birmingham, is leaving the organisation.

Mr Schuitemaker has been head of the investment programme Business Birmingham for five years and is a highly regarded.

It’s been confirmed that he is to take up a new position as managing director EMEA at US site selection consultancy Hickey and Associates at the end of the year.

Marketing Birmingham has begun the search for a replacement, but the departure of Mr Schuitemaker will come as a blow at a time when the organisation is facing cuts to its funding from Birmingham city council.

As Investment Director for Business Birmingham, Mr Schuitemaker has led Marketing Birmingham’s inward investment programme since it launched in April 2011.

Business Birmingham is responsible for supporting investors that are locating or expanding in the city region and has proved highly successful in positioning Birmingham as a prime target for inward foreign investment.

He has overseen a targeted campaign that focuses on Birmingham’s sectors of strength and key overseas markets. Business Birmingham has so far directly supported the creation of some 4,500 jobs by assisting companies including Jaguar Land Rover, Deutsche Bank, ASOS and Skanska.

Marketing Birmingham chief executive Neil Rami paid tribute to Mr Schuitemaker’s efforts:

Wouter has played a leading role in supporting investors locating or expanding in Birmingham and the wider region.

His impact has been significant and I am sure he will do extremely well in his new venture. We hope to continue to work with Wouter in his new role and wish him every success in the future.

Born in Solihull, Mr Schuitemaker was head of Asia Pacific at Think London before relocating to the Midlands to take up the top role within Marketing Birmingham’s Business Birmingham inward investment programme, which replaced Locate in Birmingham.

He had previously worked in Tokyo in roles including global business development manager at research group INTAGE and senior consultant at marketing group WPP.

He will leave Marketing Birmingham at the end of the year.
